Description
It is a massive piece and the two ends have different profiles: one is circular and the other rectangular. In the area of the oval orifice for attaching the wooden handle, the body of the sledge-hammer is widened and thickened. Both sides present traces of intense usage and are heavily deformed.
The sledge-hammer is one of the main deforming tools in the inventory of a blacksmith’s workshop.
