Lid

Title
Lid
Description
The lid has a slightly flattened conic shape, with a thickened edge. It features a knob ring, as well as an arched handle, attached under the ring and at the edge. The knob is decorated on the ring with incised lines. The handle presents a small button near the attachment area and it is decorated longitudinally with grooves and incised lines. Incisions were placed also on the lid’s calotte, close to the knob ring and the rim.
This type of lid, with a knob and a handle, is specific for the Orăştie Mountains, and especially for Sarmizegetusa Regia. It was used for covering some recipients and sealing their content. Some of them bear micro-inscriptions on their knob (graffiti).
