Axe head

Title
Axe head
Description
This type of axe has a massive square butt and an oval socket. The blade has a rectangular section and a slightly curved cutting edge. Around the socket the body thickens in order to secure the handle. It’s worth pointing out that all the analysed axes are showing a certain hardening (carburization) of the cutting edge.
As tools used for a wide range of purposes, from cutting down trees to carpentry, axes are very frequent among the Dacian findings in Orăştiei Mountains, a few dozen are known up to now.
