Title
Limestone hemisphere |
|
Description
This architectural element is carved as a hemisphere. On the sides, the shapes of a water-bird are sculpted in bas-relief. Seven “ribs” are also carved on its circumference and some channellings on the flat bottom (these ones were probably used for mounting the artefact on a stand). This type of elements, found only in Sarmizegetusa Regia, was probably decorating the upper parts of the stone walls. Find spot: Grădiștea de Munte – Sarmizegetusa Regia (Hunedoara county) Dimensions: length - 25,5 cm; width: 20,5 cm; height - 18,7 cm Material: limestone Technique: carving |
