Description
The item consists of a adorned band at the lower side and a sleeve on the upper side, with edgings on the outside and a groove on the inside. It’s main function was not an ornamental one. It was used to attach a handle to the vessel. The attachment was bolted with bronze bolts (at the missing upper side); the handle was put in through the inside groove. Vessels featuring this type of items were used in the Roman world for liquids.
